Abstract

ABSTARCT This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) gel extract supplements on performance, haemotological and serum biochemical indices of broiler starter. The experiment involved 105 day old broiler chicks (Arbor-acre) which lasted for three weeks. The birds were weighed and randomly distributed into 5 dietary treatments in a completely randomized design (CRD). The birds in treatment 1 were given drugs and vaccines during the experiment, while birds in treatment 2 were supplemented with 1.0ml of AVGE per kg of feed, while treatment 3 were supplemented with 1.5ml of AVGE per kg of feed, treatment 4 were supplemented with 2.0ml of AVGE per kg of feed and treatment 5 were supplemented with 2.5ml of AVGE per kg of feed. The dietary supplementation of Aloe vera was served at three days interval. Treatment 2, 3,4 and 5 had no drugs and were served one dose of vaccine at 7days during the experiment. The birds in all the treatments were fed with commercial feed (Ultima Plus). Blood for haematological and serum biochemical indices were collected at 3rd week of the experiment. Data collected was subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and level of significance was (p
