Abstract

ABSTRACT Core interpretation and analysis of depositional environments are critical components in the exploration and production of hydrocarbon fields. Cores, which are cylindrical samples extracted from subsurface formations during drilling, provide invaluable insights into the geological characteristics of reservoirs. They serve direct evidence of rock properties, including porosity, permeability and fluid saturation which are essential for evaluating reservoir potential and optimizing extraction methods. This study is aimed to analyze core sample from E and P field to identify lithofacies, sedimentary structures and diagenetic features, its objectives is to reconstruct depositional environments to understand sedimentary processes and facies distribution. The results of this study had five kokori-31 cores are cut between 7090.0ft ah - 7105.0ft ah. They are unresinated and are partially deteriorated. Which studied using the Apple core software and only two lithofacies were identified; which are Fine-grained mm-scale laminated sandstones (SL.f) (37.8%), Bedded mudstone (Mb) (50.56%), Coal constitute 11.5% of the total core length. The Sl.f is grey in color, fine to very fine grained, well to moderately well sorted, and subangular. It compose of quartz, mica and up to 30% clay, poorly consolidated, and very weakly cemented. Coal occurs in three distinct horizons commonly at the top of short fining upward cycles, its black parallel laminated variety thought to be fusain and has sulphur and gypsum as diagenetically produced accessories.
