INTERACTIVE 3D VIRTUAL TOUR OF FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OTUOKE (WEST CAMPUS) USING THREE.JS AND BLENDER
Abstract
This project presents the design and implementation of an Interactive 3D Virtual Tour of Federal University Otuoke (West Campus) using Blender for 3D modelling and Three.js for web-based rendering. The aim of the project is to assist prospective students, freshers, and visitors in navigating the campus environment more effectively by providing a realistic and interactive digital representation of key facilities. The system was developed using the Prototype Model, which allowed for iterative development and user feedback. Campus structures were modelled in Blender, optimised using GLTF and DRACO compression, and integrated into a web application built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Usability testing focused on loading time, realism of appearance, ease of navigation, and user satisfaction. Results showed that the virtual tour enhanced user orientation, improved accessibility, and could serve as a digital marketing tool for the university. The project lays the foundation for future integration of VR/AR features, pathfinding algorithms, and expansion to cover the entire campus.
