Abstract

The risk of transmitting airborne pathogens is an important considerationindentistry and has acquired special significance in the complex of recent respiratorydisease epidemic. Airborne indoor and outdoor bacteria were assessed usingconventional methods to investigate the enumeration and identification of airbornemicroorganisms. This was determined through air sampling using the "open plates technique"; the samples were collected from four different workshops. This studywas conducted to determine the quality of indoor air in CRUTECH Calabar, andtocharacterize the predominant aerobic bacteria present. The main objective is tosample the indoor air in various engineering workshops in CRUTECHfor bioaerosols to generate baseline data using the plate gravitation setting methodof sampling to isolate and identify potentially pathogenic organisms prevalent inCRUTECH environment. The most important bacteria strains found in the indoor atmosphere are representative of the general Bacillus. From the biochemical characterization, the most common bacteria were Bacillus species.
