INSTALLATION OF INVERTER AND SOLAR PANELS FOR POWERING CNC MILLING MACHINE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project focuses on the design and analysis of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system to power a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine in the Mechanical Engineering Workshop of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi. The study seeks to provide an alternative and sustainable energy source to mitigate the challenges associated with unreliable grid electricity supply and the high operational cost of diesel generators. A detailed load analysis was carried out, and the CNC machine was found to consume 9 kW of power with a 10 kVA capacity requirement. Based on the power needs and solar radiation data for Bauchi, a 19.2 kW PV array, 1875 Ah battery bank, and 11 kW inverter were designed. The system can supply continuous power for up to 8 hours daily with battery backup. The study concludes that solar energy offers a clean, renewable, and cost-effective solution for powering workshop equipment in educational institutions.
