EVALUATION OF HISTOMORPHOLOGICAL CHANGES IN LIVER OF CADMIUM INDUCED HEPATOTOXICITY IN WISTAR RATS TREATED WITH SOUR SOP LEAF EXTRACT
Abstract
Cadmium is a heavy metal widely distributed in the environment due to industrial activities, agricultural practices and tobacco smoking.it is known to exert toxic effects on various organs, including the liver, through mechanism such as oxidative stress, inflammation and disruption of cellular functions (Narwrot et al., 2010; Thevenod, 2010). Cadmium-induced hepatotoxicity is characterized by histomorphological changes in the liver, including hepatocyte necrosis, inflammation, fibrosis and altered tissue architecture (Jarup et al , 1998; Satarug et al., 2010).
