Abstract

Drug abuse among adolescents has become a major public health and educational concern in many parts of the world. In Nigeria, secondary school students are increasingly exposed to various substances that can negatively affect their academic performance, health, and social development. This study investigates the consequences and effects of drug abuse on secondary school students in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. A survey research design was adopted, and data were collected from selected secondary school students using structured questionnaires. The findings reveal that drug abuse among students is associated with poor academic performance, behavioral problems, health complications, and increased involvement in risky activities. The study concludes that drug abuse significantly affects students’ academic and personal development. The study recommends increased awareness programs, parental supervision, and stricter school policies to reduce drug abuse among students.
