A TECHNIQUE FOR IMPROVED EVALUATION OF PRODUCED WATER CONDUCTIVITY USING PYTHON SOFTWARE
Abstract
Quicker and easier computation of the specific electrical conductivity of produced water using only laboratory techniques is cumbersome with higher numbers of identified total dissolved solids (TDS) ions. Understanding the behavior of each ionic concentration with the conductivity is also difficult to develop using the analog method because this domain is not available on industrial simulators to produce accurate generic regression results. The aim of this study is to develop a software to enhance the understanding of the behavior of total dissolved solid (TDS) ions with specific electrical conductivity (EC) in produced water samples in the Niger Delta using python software. The objectives are to digitize the Multiplier-Total Dissolved Solid (Schlumberger Gen-4 chart) of all the available ions from 10ppm and extrapolated beyond the chart's maximum of 300,000ppm to 500,000ppm using Microsoft Excel and python software and to carry out comparative sensitivity analysis of results of both methods for each ion which includes Mg, Ca, Na, CI, K, HCO, SO, and CO. A software program was developed with improved regression coefficient order of 16 and above and compared with produced water samples from the well in the Niger Delta which was used to convert the analog version of the Schlumberger chart to digital. Results of model validation of formation water total dissolved solid (TDS) for potassium (K") ions gave converged increasing curve of TDS with increasing concentration. This means that the TDS is not sensitive to multiplier effects due to variations in concentration for both K and modified K. Results of model validation of formation water conductivity (6) for potassium (K) ions gave converged declining water conductivity-salinity with increasing concentration and increasing converged conductivity with increasing concentration to approximately 55,000ppm, then divergence occurred till 90,000ppm. The major finding of this study is the development of an improved easier and quicker digitized format computer package of the Multiplier-Total dissolved solid (Schlumberger Gen-4 chart) with a concentration range of 10ppm to over 100,000ppm as against a maximum of 100,000ppm from the older version. In contribution to knowledge, this software will greatly improved the computation accuracy and time of existing electrical conductivity of ions in produced water and perhaps increased the understanding of the behavior of both laboratory and analytical results. It is recommended that more researches be done in this area of study to discover more ions in the produced water to improve the quality of this package foe perhaps effective understanding of pollution, corrosion and water flooding programs.
