Abstract

This study examines the effect ofemployee motivation on work performance within Union Bank Plc, a prominent private organization in Oyo State, Nigeria. Employee motivation is a crucial determinant oforganizational success, as it directly influences productivity, job satisfaction, and retention rates. The research investigates the various motivational factors, including financial incentives, recognition, opportunities for professional development, and work-life balance, and their correlation with employee performance metrics at Union Bank. Using a research design approach, the study combines quantitative data gathered through surveys distributed to a sample of employees at Union Bank with qualitative insights from interviews and focus group discussions. The results reveal that intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors significantly impact employees' performance levels. Financial incentives, in particular, are found to enhance productivity, while recognition and career development opportunities contribute to increased job satisfaction and commitment to the organization. The analysis indicates that motivated employees exhibit higher levels of efficiency and are more likely to contribute positively to the organization's goals. Conversely, a lack of motivation can lead to decreased performance, higher turnover rates, and a negative workplace environment. These findings underscore the importance of implementing effective motivational strategies to foster a motivated workforce. In conclusion, the study emphasizes the need for Union Bank Limited to prioritize employee motivation as a strategic approach to enhance work performance. It recommends that the bank adopt comprehensive motivational programs tailored to the needs and preferences of its workforce. By fostering an environment that values and rewards employee contributions, Union Bank can improve overall performance, thereby achieving its organizational objectives and maintaining a competitive edge in the banking sector. This research contributes to the existing literature on employee motivation in the Nigerian banking sector and offers practical insights for organizational leaders aiming to optimize performance through enhanced motivational strategies
