SECOND ORDER CONTROL ESTABLISHMENT FROM BALOGUN VILLAGE VIA IBRAHIM CHIATTA TO OLORUNDA VILLAGE, OYO WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT, OYO, OYO STATE.
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project focused on the establishment of a second-order control network from Balogun
Village via Ibrahim Chiata to Olorunda Village in Oyo West Local Government, Oyo State.
The study was aimed at establishing reliable and permanent control points that would serve
as references for engineering, cadastral, and mapping purposes within the area.
The methodology involved reconnaissance, monumentation, GNSS observation using static
mode, data processing, and least square adjustment. The results produced highly accurate
coordinates referenced to the Nigerian Geodetic Datum (Minna Datum), achieving a
precision ratio consistent with second-order standards. The established control points will
serve as fundamental references for future surveys, enhancing accuracy and reliability in
spatial data collection and infrastructural development projects. The results were graphically
represented using AutoCAD software on a scale of 1:20,000.
The project underscores the importance of GNSS technology in modern surveying practice,
providing a faster and more efficient means of establishing geodetic control networks.
Recommendations were made for proper maintenance of control points, continuous
observation, and integration with the national geodetic framework to ensure consistency and
longevity of the established controls
