Abstract

Abstract This project focuses on the design and construction of a Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking device intended for use in real-time location monitoring and navigation. In an age where security and surveillance are vital, GPS technology plays a crucial role in asset tracking, fleet management, and personal safety. The proposed device integrates a GPS module and GSM module (SIM800L), alongside an Arduino Uno microcontroller, to collect location data and transmit it via SMS to a predefined number. The project entails both hardware and software development stages, including circuit design, module interfacing, code implementation, and casing construction. Several tests were conducted to evaluate the device’s efficiency, accuracy, and durability under varied environmental conditions. Results showed high precision in coordinates and effective GSM communication for transmitting data. This project demonstrates a cost-effective and reliable solution for tracking movable assets, vehicles, or even individuals for safety and monitoring purposes. Challenges encountered included GSM signal delay and occasional location drift, which were mitigated using antenna optimization and error-checking algorithms. In conclusion, the device provides a solid foundation for further development into commercial GPS tracking systems with real-time online mapping and enhanced connectivity features.
