Abstract

This study examined the effect of age and gender on students’ academic performance. The research adopted a survey design and collected data from students, which were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results revealed that age and gender together explained only 1.1% of the variation in academic performance, with the regression model not statistically significant (2,467) = 2.692, p = 0.069. The coefficients indicated that age had a slight positive but non-significant effect (p = 0638). while gender had a negative but non-significant effect (p = 262). These findings suggest that students’ performance is not significantly influenced by age or gender but rather by other factors such as motivation, socio-economic background, study habits, and availability of learning resources. The study recommends that educators and policymakers focus on improving teaching methods, learning resources, and supportive environments instead of demographic characteristics
