INVESTIGATING THE MODULATORY EFFECTS OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF ADRIAN FRUIT (TETRAPLEURA TETRAPTERA) ON LEARNING AND MEMORY IN PTZ-INDUCED EPILEPSY IN MICE.
Abstract
This study evaluates the modulatory effects of methanolic extract of Tetrapleura tetraptera (TTE) on learning and memory in Pentylenetetrazol (PTZ)-induced epileptic mice. Epilepsy often results in cognitive decline due to recurrent seizures and oxidative stress. Mice were divided into five groups: Control, PTZ-induced (untreated), PTZ + Sodium Valproate, and PTZ + TTE (low/high dose). Cognitive performance was assessed using the Morris Water Maze (MWM) and Elevated Plus Maze (EPM). Results showed that TTE-treated mice exhibited significantly shorter escape latencies and increased time in the target quadrant compared to the untreated epileptic group. The extract also reduced markers of neuro-inflammation, suggesting a neuroprotective role.
