Abstract

This project focuses on reducing signal loss or low reception of signal which is a major problem with most antennas including that of the antenna used for GoTV service. These problems are caused by inevitable external factors (weather, buildings and trees), low gain and bandwidth of the antenna. Yagi antenna, which is the main subject of this project, is a directional antenna consisting of multiple parallel elements in line usually made of metal rods. Yagi or Yagi-Uda Antenna consists of a single driven element that is connected to the transmitter or receiver with a transmission line and additional elements; a reflector and one or more directors. Yagi antennas are used in applications where high gain and directivity are required. Generally, great numbers of directors are added to increase the gain of these antennas. In this project I will be designing and simulating; with the use of CST Studio software applications, a Yagi-Uda Antenna. Here the Yagi antenna will be modified to increase the gain, improve the bandwidth and directivity for the GoTV Service. I will discuss the Yagi antenna with uniform and non-uniform spacing between each director for gain and bandwidth with the sole purpose of improving signal strength. The simulation in this project would further show how the GoTV service would be improved using this antenna within a specific bandwidth compared to the GO-antenna or any traditional Yagi antenna used by the service
