Abstract

A gastric ulcer is an open sore that forms on the lining of the stomach, typically caused by the breakdown of the stomach's protective mucus barrier, causing stomach pain and potential complications if untreated. This study investigated the effects of maize-diet on some gastric oxidants markers in ethanol-induced gastric ulcer healing in male Wistar rats. Twenty male (20) Wistar rats were used. Gastric ulcers were induced via oral administration of ethanol (0.5 mL\ 100g body weight) after 24 hours of fasting. The animals were divided into four groups (n=5) and were fed different diets for one week. Group 1: Control group fed with a normal feed; Group 2: Ulcer group fed with normal feed; Group 3: Ulcer group fed with no-maize diet; Group 4: Ulcer group fed with a high-maize diet. Body weight was measured weekly, and the treatment lasted for one wee. At the end of the experiment, the animals were sacrificed, and their stomachs harvested for biochemical assay (malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), and 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8 OHdG) and total protein). Data was epressed in Mean ± S.E.M and analyzed using GraphPad Prism, version 5.0; One-way ANOVA, followed by Tukey’s post hoc test, was conducted, with p
