DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF AN ORIFICE METER FOR LABORATORY USE
Abstract
The design and optimization of an orifice meter for laboratory use aim to enhance the accuracy
and efficiency of fluid flow measurement in controlled experimental environments. This project
investigates the principles behind the orifice meter, a widely used flow measurement device, and
seeks to optimize its performance for precise flow rate determinations in laboratory-scale
applications.
Through a combination of theoretical analysis and practical design considerations, the study
focuses on the key factors influencing the accuracy of an orifice meter, such as orifice diameter,
flow velocity, pressure drop, and fluid properties. Various design modifications are explored,
including material selection, orifice geometry, and the integration of advanced flow conditioning
techniques to reduce measurement errors.
The optimization process involves computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to model the
flow characteristics and predict the performance of different configurations. Experimental
validation is conducted to compare theoretical predictions with actual measurements, ensuring
the reliability and robustness of the orifice meter design under varying laboratory conditions.
This work contributes to the advancement of flow measurement technology, providing a more
accurate, cost effective solution for fluid dynamics research in academic and industrial
laboratories. The optimized orifice meter design is expected to support improved data acquisition
and analysis, with potential applications in research, education, and process control.
