A SURVEY OF THE EFFECTS OF FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL ON THE PRODUCTIVITY OF OFFICE MANAGERS
Abstract
This research investigates how removal of fuel subsidy affects productivity of office managers at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi . Given the significant role office managers play in ensuring administrative efficiency, understanding the economic pressures created by subsidy removal is crucial. The study focused on four key dimensions of productivity: administrative tasks, time management, quality of work, and teamwork. A survey design was employed, collecting data from 62 secretaries in the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi with 52 valid responses, yielding 83% response rate. The findings reveal among others that subsidy removal substantially increased operational costs, which directly hindered administrative efficiency. In conclusion, the removal of fuel subsidies significantly challenges the effectiveness of office managers by constraining resources, reducing efficiency, and undermining teamwork. Recommendations include the adoption of cost-saving strategies, flexible work arrangements, and investment in alternative energy sources. Institutions should also introduce staff support programs to help managers adapt to economic pressures while sustaining productivity.
