AN EVALUATON OF ANGLICAN CHURCH LEADER’S TOWARDS THE POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT IN ONDO WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, ONDO STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study critically evaluates the attitudes of Anglican Church leaders towards political development within the Ondo West Local Government Area. With the understanding that religious institutions often play a significant role in societal well-being, this research investigates the perspectives, engagements, and influences of Anglican leaders on the political landscape of the region. Drawing upon qualitative and quantitative data, including interviews with key church leaders and community members, surveys, and analysis of relevant church documents and public statements, the study explores the various dimensions of their attitudes. These dimensions include their views on good governance, social justice, electoral processes, and their direct or indirect involvement in political advocacy and community development initiatives. The research aims to identify whether their attitudes are characterized by active participation, critical commentary, disengagement, or a combination thereof, and to understand the underlying theological and socio-political factors shaping these stances. Ultimately, this evaluation sheds light on the complex relationship between religious leadership and political progress in a specific Nigerian context, offering insights into the potential for constructive engagement between faith-based organizations and the political sphere for sustainable development.
