DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF A SMART SOLAR-POWERED SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM
Abstract
A smart solar powered surveillance system is a video collection device installed in a particular location and utilized for a variety of purposes, it can be controlled and observed remotely and has a backup power system in form of the solar powered inverter. Due to the frequent and rampant cases of burglary, the need for an effective and reliable intrusion detection system with an alarm system has become a critical necessity. This project aims to design and develop a system that can capture and record moving images, to design and develop a system that can transmit the captured moving images wirelessly, to design and integrate into the system, functionality that will enable the system to alert the user immediately when an unusual action is noticed and to integrate into the system, a solar powered inverter that will serve as a power backup for the system.
A network video recorder (NVR) and a microcontroller are the two main devices. Cameras, hard drives, screens, modems, GSM modules, and motion sensors are among the other devices. The system can also be divided into two parts: CCTV and alerting. The camera is used to capture real-time video of its surroundings. The modem serves as the link between the NVR and the remote server. The captured videos are saved on the hard drive. All of the aforementioned CCTV operations are coordinated by NVR. The motion sensor is used to detect intruders for the alerting system. The SIM800L GSM module establishes a connection with the user's phone. This activity is coordinated by ATMEGA328.
The installation process considers optimal placement of solar panels and cameras to maximize exposure to sunlight and enhance the system's coverage. Connectivity is established through wireless communication protocols, enabling remote monitoring and control. Additionally, the system's scalability allows for easy expansion and integration with existing security infrastructure.
The implementation of this smart solar-powered surveillance system addresses the challenges of traditional power limitations in surveillance solutions, providing a cost-effective, sustainable, and technologically advanced approach to security monitoring. The findings from this study contribute to the ongoing efforts to develop resilient and eco-friendly surveillance systems, especially in areas with limited access to reliable power sources.
