Abstract

The growing demand for efficient and sustainable energy storage has led to increasinginterest innanocomposites that combine carbon-based materials with transition metal oxides. Graphiticcarbonnitride (g-C₃N₄) is valued for its stability, high surface area, and semiconducting properties, whilecopperoxide (CuO) is a low-cost transition metal oxide known for its redox activity. Integratingthesetwomaterials offers a promising approach to improving structural and electrochemical performance inenergystorage applications. In this project, a g-C₃N₄/CuO nanocomposite was synthesized usingathermaldecomposition method. The synthesis involved sodium hydroxide, copper(II) chloride, andgraphiticcarbon nitride, with a magnetic stirrer employed for mixing. Sodium hydroxide served as a precipitatingagent for CuO formation, while thermal treatment ensured stabilization of the nanocomposite. Thesynthesized material was characterized using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-rayDiffraction (XRD), and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX). TEManalysis showedwell-dispersed nanoparticles with an average size of 4.63 nm, along with structural features up to~100nm,confirming nanoscale morphology. XRD revealed distinct crystalline peaks at the (111), (220), (311), and(330) planes, indicating the formation of crystalline CuO. EDX analysis confirmed the elementalcomposition, with carbon (77.56 wt%) and oxygen (20.24 wt%) as the dominant components, reflectingthe successful integration of g-C₃N₄ with CuO. The prepared g-C₃N₄/CuO nanocomposite demonstratesfavorable nanoscale structure, crystallinity, and composition, making it a potential candidate for energystorage applications and further electrochemical evaluation
