Abstract

ABSTRACT A renewed interest in the rights of consumers during transactions has been attributed to various factors, including the modern focus on the consumer economy, development led by the private sector, the growing trend of globalisation, and the unparalleled advancements in information and communication technology (ICT). Because of the information gap and power imbalance that occurs between customers and product and service makers, people have become aware of unpleasant marketing situations and scenarios. The objective of this undergraduate law project is to investigate Consumer Protection at 13 level. The specific objectives of this project are as follows: to 1 determine whether Nigerian consumers' rights are effectively protected under Protection Act (FCCPA); to ascertain the extent to which the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 1 protects consumer rights; to determine whether areas of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act's consumer rights protection are lacking. Throughout this project, we shall explore the numerous issues using the doctrinal method of study. In addition to secondary materials like articles, textbooks, and internet resources, we also resorted to main sources like legislation and case laws. The FCCPA has been quite successful in defending consumer rights in Nigeria. This was the 1 reason for Commission and Tribunal. The Commission and Tribunal have used a range of strategies to carry out the Act's goals. The battle against counterfeiting and trademark infringement in Nigeria is one of them. It's critical to remember that the FCCPA still has shortcomings. It is advised that the Commission explains the Act and its responsibilities to market players. It is true that the commission is relatively new to the market, but even so, it has an obligation to ensure that people are equipped with the information they need to make informed choices. Furthermore, in order for the Commission to serve producers and consumers without fear or favour, it is urged that it maintain the transparency and integrity specified in its core values by ensuring that political intervention is avoided. It is still possible to improve enforcement protocols. Cooperation between 3government regulatory bodies and the FCCPC is required. This enhances compliance with regulatory requirements and strengthens initiatives meant to empower and represent customers
