DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A SCHOOL VOTING SYSTEM USING BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
This project presents the development of a blockchain-based voting system designed for use in
educational institutions to conduct secure and transparent student elections. Traditional school
voting processes are often manual, time-consuming, and vulnerable to manipulation or error. This
study explores the use of blockchain technology to address these challenges by creating a prototype
that ensures vote integrity, verifiability, and transparency while maintaining voter anonymity.
The system was developed using a modern decentralized architecture. Smart contracts were written
in Solidity and deployed on a local Ethereum blockchain using the Hardhat development
framework. The frontend was built with React.js and styled using CSS, while blockchain
interactions were handled through ethers.js and Web3.js. MetaMask was used to authenticate users
and enable secure vote casting. The system features modules for voter authentication, candidate
registration, secure voting, and real-time result tallying.
As a prototype, the system was tested in a controlled local environment and successfully
demonstrated the core features required for a trustworthy voting process. It ensures one-person-
one-vote integrity, prevents double voting, and provides immutable result storage. This project
highlights the feasibility of using blockchain to enhance democratic practices in schools and lays
a foundation for future improvements and real-world deployment.
