ESTIMATION OF CREATININE AND UREA IN PREECLAMPSIA PATIENTS AT MADONNA UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL (MUTH)
Abstract
This study was carried out to evaluate the levels of Creatinine and urea among preeclampsia patients in Madonna University Teaching Hospital Elele, Rivers state. Out of 90 pregnant women 45 of them have their blood pressure being normal and the other 45 were suffered from preeclampsia. A total number of 90 venous blood samples were collected from in which the serum Creatinine and urea levels were determined by Modified Jaffee and Urease Berthelot methods respectively. The results obtained were analyzed using Special Package of Social Science (SPSS) version 20. The results revealed the mean concentration of Creatinine (0.94 ±
0.01 among preeclampsia women was significantly increased when compared to control (0.44 ± 0.01mg/dl) at p < 0.05. Similarly, the results showed the mean concentration of urea (31.80 ±10.37 mg/dl) among the preeclampsia patients when compared with the control 25.53 ± 10.57 mg/dl. Hence, there is a significant difference in the mean concentration of urea among the preeclampsia patients (P< 0.05). In conclusion, the results from this present study could indicate that preeclampsia increases the serum concentration of Creatinine and urea in pregnant women.
