Abstract

This study examines the role of radio in promoting democracy in Nigeria using Premier FM 93.5 Ibadan as a case study. Through a mixed-methods approach involving content analysis and in-depth interviews, the study analyzed Premier FM's programming and obtained perspectives from its staff and listeners. The findings reveal that the station provides diverse views on political issues, empowers citizens through civic education, and serves as a platform for citizens to express themselves. However, more can be done to improve access and ensure balanced coverage. The study concludes that with proper regulation and professionalism, radio has great potential to deepen citizen participation and accountability in Nigeria's democratic process.
