Abstract

ABSTRACT Labour turnover remains one of the most pressing challenges facing modern organizations, particularly in developing economies where economic instability and job insecurity are prevalent. This study investigates the effect of labour turnover on organizational performance, using 7UP Bottling Company Plc, Aba as a case study. The research aims to understand the causes of employee turnover, its impact on productivity, and possible strategies for improving employee retention. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design, utilizing both primary and secondary data sources. Questionnaires were administered to staff members across different departments, while relevant literature provided a theoretical foundation. Findings revealed that labour turnover significantly affects organizational performance through increased recruitment costs, reduced productivity, loss of experienced personnel, and disruption of workflow. Furthermore, factors such as poor remuneration, lack of career advancement opportunities, job dissatisfaction, and ineffective management practices were identified as major drivers of turnover. The study concludes that reducing labour turnover is essential for enhancing organizational efficiency and sustaining long-term growth. Recommendations include improving employee welfare, providing career development opportunities, fostering a supportive work environment, and implementing effective human resource policies. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of workforce dynamics and provides practical solutions for organizations aiming to improve performance through employee retention.
