Abstract

This study evaluated the impact of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on road traffic crashes in Ogbomoso Area of Oyo State. The research focused on three main aspects of FRSC activities: public enlightenment campaigns, traffic law enforcement, and emergency response services. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques. The study found that FRSC public enlightenment campaigns have a significant positive impact on driver behavior, with a high level of awareness and perceived influence among road users. The effectiveness of traffic law enforcement was supported by a strong positive correlation between enforcement actions and compliance rates. The study also revealed the crucial role of FRSC emergency response services in reducing the severity of injuries from road traffic crashes, highlighting the importance of timely medical intervention. However, the research also identified several challenges faced by the FRSC in implementing road safety interventions, including inadequate funding and resources, poor road infrastructure, and lack of public cooperation. These challenges underscore the need for a comprehensive and multi-sectoral approach to road safety in Ogbomoso and Nigeria as a whole.
