Abstract

ABSTRACT This study explores the analysis of public service announcements (PSAs) aired on Peace FM and Dandal Kura Radio in Maiduguri. The primary objectives are to determine the frequency of PSAs, examine their contents, and investigate the types of issues addressed. The study is guided by the Agenda Setting Theory, which posits that the media play a crucial role in shaping public opinion and influencing the priorities of the audience by framing specific issues as more important. Using content analysis and interviews, the research examines the extent to which PSAs on these radio stations address key societal issues such as health, security, and education. The findings reveal varying frequencies and thematic focuses in the PSAs, illustrating the influence of the media in directing public attention to particular concerns. The study concludes with recommendations for improving the effectiveness and reach of PSAs in Maiduguri, ensuring they address issues of significant public interest and societal relevance. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the role of media in agenda-setting, particularly within the context of local radio broadcasting in Nigeria.
