Abstract

This independent Geological field mapping which was carried out from 18th of March through 21st of March 2024 is to enable students carry out independent field mapping. Different geological materials and/or equipment were used just as different methods was applied which includes but not limited to surface identification of outcrops, sample examine, logging and others. The areas covered were mostly the Basement rocks of Igharra in Northern part of Edo State of Nigeria. The rock type in this area is majorly Igneous rocks and Metamorphic rocks which includes Granite, Pegmatite, Quartzite ridge, Biotite Schist, Biotite Granite and Mica Schist. Other features were also seen such as Vein Quartz, Batholith, contact metamorphosim etc. One the other hand, Okpekpe, Imeigba, Mami formation, Ajali sandstone and the Bawa hill was also mapped are composed of sedimentary rocks. This work majorly focuses on mapping out geologic features/ structures within the area covered and thus creating a geologic map based on information from the existing map, invariably acting to update it as new roads, schools, hospitals and other infrastructures which was not in the base map I’d included. These basement rocks are geologically believed to belong to the Older Granite of the Pan-African Orogeny(600+150mya).
