NUTRIENT DIGESTIBILITY OF YANKASA RAMS FED GRADED LEVEL OF FAIDHERBIA ALBIDA FRUIT IN SEMI ARID REGION OF BORNO STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to evaluate the nutrient digestibility of Yankasa rams fed graded levels of Faidherbia albida fruit as a dry-season feed supplement. A total of twenty (20) Yankasa rams with average live weight ranging from 25–40 kg were randomly allotted to five dietary treatments in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four animals per treatment. Five experimental diets containing 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% inclusion levels of Faidherbia albida fruit were designated as T₁, T₂, T₃, T₄ and T₅ respectively, and fed for 56 days. At the end of the feeding trial, a digestibility trial was carried out using the total collection method. Proximate analysis of diets and faecal samples was conducted to determine dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), crude fibre (CF), ether extract (EE) and nitrogen free extract (NFE). Data obtained were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and means were separated using Least Significant Difference (LSD). The results showed significant (P
