Abstract

ABSTRACT The study examines the effects of election postponement on democratic consolidation in Nigeria. The theoretical model adopted for the study was the Structural functionalism theory. The utility of this theory for the study is that it highlights the interdependence of political structures and elements, shedding light on how delays might disrupt the balance and functionality of democratic processes. The research method adopted for the study was historical descriptive research design. Data was obtained from secondary sources. Data was analysed using the content analysis approach. Findings from the study revealed among other things, that there is a significant relationship between election postponement and democratic consolidation in Nigeria. The study recommended, among other things, that a robust and transparent online voting system should be implemented so as to ensure higher voter turnouts and enhance accessibility to citizens.
