RENAL PROFILE OF SITE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS EXPOSED TO CEMENT PARTICLES IN IBADAN METROPOLIS.
Abstract
Background and Aim:
Cement dust contains a significant amount of silica to release distinct harmful elements when
various additives are introduced as well as through various mechanical operations. This study
aimed to establish the extent of derangement in renal profile parameters in construction workers
occupationally exposed to cement particles, assessing renal status of exposed participants over a
period of time in their work schedules.
Method:
In this experimental study, eight (80) workers were sourced from different residential and
commercial projects, and randomly divided into two groups. The control group were the
participants that were not exposed to cement dust, nor participants with pre-existing renal
conditions, while the exposed group were participants occupationally exposed to cement dust, on
daily basis, an average of 45% for 8 hours.
Result:
The findings revealed a strong positive correlation between parameters in both the test and
control groups, suggesting a consistent relationship at the 5% level of significance (p-value <
0.01). Urea and uric acid analyses revealed a (±36.202 mg/dl, p-value
