Abstract
Abstract
The main thrust of this study was on Sun and Vanguard newspapers coverage of banditry and kidnapping in northern Nigeria, taking a study period from January to June 2024. The ultimate aim was to know the level of coverage giving to banditry and kidnapping in northern Nigeria by the Sun and Vanguard newspapers. The print media was discovered to be very vibrant in surveillance of the environment. The methodology used for this study is the content analysis method. Coding sheet was constructed containing content categories with which data was generated for analysis. The data were analysed using tables, frequencies and percentages. According to the investigation, the media has numerous obstacles even if it is quite active in covering bandit activity. The study's recommendations include the idea that the media's reporting function has evolved into a public event in which non-practitioners can take part. Next, the media should report ethically, which is a journalistic obligation and a fundamental tenet of the media's gatekeeping and watchdog role. Additionally, in order to improve their relationship with the public, the mass media should respect ethical norms and not take the people's support for granted, as it is quickly lost.
