Abstract

ABSTRACT The integration of facial recognition technology with intrusion detection systems (IDS) represents a significant advancement in the field of security and surveillance. This research aims to explore the potential of facial recognition to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of IDS. The primary objectives are to assess the current state of facial recognition technology, evaluate its applicability in various IDS frameworks, and propose a robust implementation model that addresses existing security challenges. Despite the advancements in IDS, traditional methods such as signature-based, anomaly- based, and heuristic detection face significant limitations. High false positive rates, difficulty in detecting sophisticated intrusions, and the inability to provide real-time threat identification are critical issues that undermine the effectiveness of IDS. These challenges necessitate the adoption of advanced technologies like facial recognition to bolster security measures and reduce the likelihood of unauthorized access. The methodology of this research involves a comprehensive review of existing literature on facial recognition and IDS, followed by the development of an integrated framework combining both technologies. The Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) algorithm is employed to enhance the accuracy and speed of facial recognition. This choice is due to CNN's proven effectiveness in image classification and pattern recognition. The implementation involves training the CNN with a diverse dataset to ensure robust performance across various conditions. The research also includes a detailed analysis of the hardware and software requirements for the successful implementation of this hybrid system, including high-resolution cameras, robust processing units, and secure databases. Implementation of the proposed system is demonstrated through case studies in various sectors such as banking, military, and corporate security, highlighting the practical benefits and applications. Ethical and privacy considerations are thoroughly addressed, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks like GDPR. The study concludes by summarizing the benefits and challenges of integrating facial recognition with IDS, offering insights and recommendations for future research. This exploration underscores the transformative potential of facial recognition technology in enhancing IDS, paving the way for more secure and intelligent security solutions.
