Abstract

students’ academic performance at the Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State. The research focused on modern teaching strategies such as project-based learning, collaborative learning, gamification, blended learning, and the integration of technology tools like smart boards, projectors, e-learning platforms, and digital libraries. A survey research design was adopted, with a sample of 124 students drawn from the Faculty of Education using simple random sampling techniques. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that innovative teaching methods significantly enhance student engagement, comprehension, and academic performance. Students expressed positive attitudes toward technology-enhanced learning environments, indicating improved motivation and better access to educational resources. However, challenges such as high costs of ICT infrastructure, inadequate training for educators, and poor internet connectivity were identified as barriers to effective implementation. The study concludes that integrating technology-driven instructional strategies into the curriculum can transform traditional teacher-centered approaches into dynamic, learner-focused models that align with 21st-century educational demands. Recommendations include investing in digital infrastructure, providing professional development for lecturers, and updating curricula to incorporate active learning and digital literacy. This research contributes to understanding how educational innovation can bridge the gap between conventional pedagogies and modern learning needs, particularly in Nigerian higher education institutions.
