Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the relationship between working conditions and employee productivity in the Ministry of Information, Abia State. The modern workplace is no longer defined by physical presence alone but by the quality of conditions under which employees operate. Poor working conditions have been widely associated with reduced morale, inefficiency, and low productivity, particularly in public institutions. The study adopted a descriptive survey design, using questionnaires and interviews to gather data from employees across different departments within the ministry. Findings reveal that factors such as inadequate office facilities, irregular power supply, poor remuneration, lack of motivation, and ineffective management practices significantly hinder employee productivity. The research concludes that improving working conditions is not a luxury but a necessity for achieving organizational goals. It recommends strategic investments in infrastructure, better welfare packages, and improved leadership practices to enhance employee performance.
