Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the relationship between staff training and the performance of civil servants, focusing on the Ministry of Agriculture in Enugu State. In many public sector organizations, employee performance is often hindered by inadequate training, outdated skills, and lack of continuous professional development. This research aims to examine how structured training programs influence employee efficiency, productivity, and service delivery. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected using questionnaires distributed to selected staff within the ministry. The findings reveal that staff training plays a critical role in improving employee competence, confidence, and overall job performance. However, challenges such as inadequate funding, irregular training schedules, and lack of modern training tools were identified. The study concludes that effective and consistent staff training significantly enhances performance in the civil service. It recommends increased investment in training programs, adoption of modern training techniques, and establishment of continuous learning frameworks to ensure sustained improvement in public sector productivity.
