Abstract

Nano science and technology is a modern field in engineering and material science, which enacts the basis for the origin of novel technological materials. The basic principle behind using nano materials, which are broad in surface area is to reduce voids and thereby improve the compressive and flexural strength at early ages when compared with other cements materials. “The purpose of this project is to compare the properties of conventional concrete and Nano concrete” through compressive strength, durability, impermeability, and volume stability as the physical properties in its plastic and hardened states where workability, segregation, bleeding, shrinkage, air entertainment, strength, durability, permeability and porosity, modulus of elasticity creeps and thermal resistance properties were tested. However, there is a scope for development, nano materials (silica and vanadium mix) can work the path to reduce content of cement in concrete than the conventional mixes while maintaining same strength characteristics that will lead to the production of ‘greener’ concrete (economical). The out-turn of crystalline nanosilica and nanovanadium on water absorption characteristics of geopolymers was analyzed at three days and seven days of hydraulic curing regimes. The results were analyzed by factorial analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA). ANOVA results were used to find optimized mixture proportions. The results show that the level of reactions geopolymers is the basic factor affecting the percentage of water absorption. While nanosilica particles support a heavier geopolymeric paste, inactive nanovanadium particles behave as nanofillers and reduce water demands. Oven dry system was used to dehydrate the cured nanosilica and nanovanadium mix. Nanosilica/nanovanadium mix in 10/1 by weight respectively were used in the various proportion such as 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% to replace the weight of cement. When concrete is reduced to nano level its properties are strongly influenced so that it increases strength and durability. The mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural strength of respective specimen were tested after 7days and 28 days curing.
