DEVELOPMENT OF A VIRTUAL LABORATORY FOR CHEMISTRY EXPERIMENT
Abstract
DEVELOPMENT OF A WEB BASED VIRTUAL LABORATORY FOR CHEMISTRY EXPERIMENT
ABSTRACT
Virtual Laboratories in a Virtual Learning Environment are indispensable spaces for developing practical activities. This project work is motivated by the ability of lack of access to physical laboratories for science practical and lack of willingness to participate in science practical sessions. The aim of this work therefore is to develop a web based virtual laboratory for chemistry experiments. This will among others enable students as well individuals in secondary school level to have access to various chemistry practical sessions and learn at their own pace and with ease and also have access to experiments wherever they are and at any time of their desire. This will increase the desire for science learning and increase awareness on the part of the students on the magnificent role ICT can play in effective learning. The methodology adopted is the Object Oriented System Analysis and Design Method (OOADM) and the programming languages used include PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. MySQL was used for the database. The new system was tested with testable data, documented and confirmed working to provide and efficient and effective means of learning and teaching for students and teachers respectively.
