Abstract

Economic depression has serious effects on business activities and consumer behavior across different sectors of the economy. The hospitality industry is particularly vulnerable because hotel services are often considered non essential expenditures during periods of economic hardship. This study examines the effect of economic depression on the marketing of hotel product. The study investigates how economic depression influences consumer spending, hotel patronage, pricing strategies, and promotional activities in the hospitality sector. Data for the study may be obtained from hotel managers, staff, and customers through questionnaires and interviews, as well as from relevant secondary sources. The findings are expected to reveal that economic depression reduces the purchasing power of consumers and negatively affects demand for hotel products such as accommodation, food services, event hosting, and leisure activities. The study may also show that hotels respond by adopting flexible pricing, promotional offers, and cost reduction strategies to retain customers. The study concludes that economic depression has a significant negative effect on the marketing of hotel products. It recommends that hotel operators should adopt innovative marketing strategies, improve service quality, and diversify their products to remain competitive during periods of economic decline.
