Abstract

ABSTRACT The healthcare industry continues to face significant challenges in managing patient appointments, staff schedules, and resource allocation, especially in environments where manual processes still dominate. Inefficient scheduling methods often lead to long patient wait times, double bookings, underutilized resources, and administrative burdens that affect both service delivery and patient satisfaction. This project presents the development of a web-based healthcare scheduling system designed to automate and streamline appointment booking between patients and healthcare providers. The system allows patients to register, view doctor availability, and book appointments using a First-Come-First-Served (FCFS) approach, while doctors can manage their schedules and receive real-time updates through a responsive dashboard. Built with PHP for backend processing and MySQL for data storage, the platform ensures efficiency, data integrity, and accessibility across devices. Key features include secure user authentication, automated conflict detection, appointment notifications, and a mobile-friendly interface. These elements collectively improve user experience and operational workflow. The system was tested using real-world scenarios and demonstrated reliable performance in terms of speed, usability, and scheduling accuracy. Overall, the project provides a practical, scalable solution to healthcare scheduling inefficiencies and lays a solid foundation for future enhancements such as AI integration, mobile application development, and interoperability with Electronic Health Records (EHR).
