PRELIMINARY SCREENING OF LEPTADENIA HASTATA PERS. (DECNE) LEAF FOR SAPONIN GLYCOSIDES
Abstract
In this study, Frothing test, Histochemical Analysis, and Phytochemical Screening were conducted to determine the probable presence of Saponins in the methanol extract of leaf of Leptadenia Hastate Pers.(Decne). The results revealed the probable absence of Saponin Glycosides and presence of a few other secondary metabolites including alkaloids, flavonoids, Terpeniod, carbohydrates and ketones. The implications of the presence of these secondary metabolites were discussed. The yield of the extract obtained from methanol extract of Leptadenia Hastate Pers. Leaf was 24.7%.
