ADELEKE SKILL ACQUISITION CENTER OSOGBO, OSUN STATE: APPLICATION OF FLEXIBILITY DESIGN PRINCIPLES.
Abstract
This project investigates the application of flexibility design principles in the architectural development of a vocational training facility—the proposed Adeleke Skill Acquisition Center in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria. In the face of shifting economic demands and changing teaching methods, conventional static institutional buildings often fail to accommodate multifunctional and adaptive uses. This study positions flexibility as a core architectural strategy for spatial resilience, adaptability, and longevity in skill acquisition environments. By employing modular planning, transformable spatial configurations, and scalable structural systems, the design responds to the dynamic requirements of various vocational programs, including technical trades, creative arts, and digital skills training. Through precedent studies, theoretical frameworks, and contextual site analysis, the research explores how flexible rchitecture can optimize spatial efficiency, enhance user interaction, and support socio-economic development. The design proposal integrates climate-responsive strategies, community interface zones, and reconfigurable interior elements, ultimately presenting a framework for a responsive and future-ready learning environment. The project contributes to the discourse on sustainable institutional design by illustrating how spatial flexibility can foster inclusive, adaptable, and context-sensitive architectural solutions in emerging economies.
