INFLUENCE OF VIOLENT TELEVISION CARTOON PROGRAMMES ON CHILDREN IN UYO METROPOLIS OF AKWA-IBOM STATE
Abstract
Anambra State, located in southeastern Nigeria, has experienced a surge in violent attacks by unknown gunmen in recent years. These gunmen, whose identities and motives are often unclear, have carried out targeted killings, kidnappings, and other criminal activities, causing fear and insecurity among the population. This study seeks to analyze the phenomenon of unknown gunmen in Anambra State, with a focus on understanding the causes, impacts, and responses to these incidents. Through a review of existing literature, analysis of media reports and interviews with key stakeholders, this study identifies factors such as political instability, ethnic tensions, and criminal gangs as possible causes of the violence. The impacts of these attacks are also assessed, including the loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of populations. Finally, this study analyzes the responses of the state and federal governments, security agencies, and civil society organizations to the unknown gunmen phenomenon. The findings of this study suggest that a comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of the violence, enhances intelligence gathering, and improves community policing could help to mitigate the impact of unknown gunmen activities in Anambra State and other regions of Nigeria.
