Abstract

Rice samples from Itas/Gadau local government, in which the concentration of heavy metals were analyzed/determined with the aid of standard analytical technique (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer). The results of the analysis obtained were describe the concentration of zn which was found to be 1.87± 1.61 mg/L in (A) and Mn 1.15 ± 7.57 mg/L in (B) samples. The concentration of Cd is found to be 1.22± 7.81 mg/L in (C) and Cr 2.27± 10.65 mg/L samples. and pb concentration was found to be 2.05 ±10.12 mg/L in (D) The concentration of heavy metals analyzes were below the permicible limit set by WHO but Mn was found to be above. Conclusively this results we obtained is permicible to make used of it best on this five heavy metals. To assess the safety of dietary intake, weekly intake of heavy metals contaminated rice, was calculated based on the intake of a typical 60kg body weight Nigerian. The result indicated that weekly intake of heavy metals from rice was below the provisional tolerable weekly intakes recommended by FAO/WHO and USNA (United States National Academy of sciences)
