Abstract

The focus of this research is on the evaluation of radio reportage on the economic paralysis of Mondays' sit-at-home in South East Nigeria (a study of Urban Radio). The ultimate aim of the study was to ascertain if the re-arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government of Nigeria has contributed to a sit at home order in the southeast and to know whether the sit at home order has significantly created economic paralyšis on Enugu urban residents. The researcher adopted the agenda setting theory as the theoretical framework of the study. The research method that adopted was the survey research method. This method is concerned with the structuring and administering of questionnaire. The population of the study was 1300792. A total of 400 questionnaires were administered to the sample of the study. The analysis of data was done using tables, frequencies and percentages for the demography of respondents and research questions. The hypotheses were tested using the Chi-square formula. It was discovered that re-arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government has significantly contributed to a sit at home order in thesouth east zone and that the sit at home order has significantly created economic paralysis on the Enugu urban residents.Part of the recommendations of the study was that Nigerian government should dialogue with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to avert future calls for sit-at-home by a non-state actor groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra. Also, Indigenous People of Biafra should be serious in calling off the sit-at-home order because of the economic implications it portends to Igbo people.
