Abstract

The research investigates the relationship between indecent dressing and the academic performance of undergraduate students at Plateau State University Bokkos (PLASU). Through a cross-sectional descriptive survey, data were collected from 387 students across various faculties using structured questionnaires. The study explores the prevalence of indecent dressing, its impact on students' academic engagement, and the effectiveness of institutional dress code policies. Results indicate a significant portion of students believe indecent dressing influences academic performance and participation, though attitudes and enforcement of dress code policies were found to be inconsistent, contributing to the persistence of the issue. The study concludes that stricter policy enforcement, awareness campaigns, and counseling could mitigate the effects of indecent dressing and improve students’ academic outcomes. Recommendations include stronger enforcement of dress codes, involving student leaders in promoting appropriate dress, and addressing peer and societal influences on student attire.
