Abstract

This project addresses the inherent challenges associated with traditional and contemporary mechanical floor cleaning methods, including significant physiological strains on cleaners, the operational complexities and costs of existing machines, and limitations posed by power supply issues, particularly in regions like Nigeria (Singh, 2016). Current cleaning practices, often reliant on manual or robot-assisted dry cleaning, frequently necessitate additional efforts for mopping and are labor-intensive, leading to fatigue and reduced productivity (Koskas & Vignais, 2024). In response, we propose a modified mechanical floor cleaning machine that integrates an electric motor for autonomous rotation and a water tank for efficient mopping operations. This innovation aims to enhance cleaning efficiency and autonomy, mitigate reliance on constant electricity, and provide a more streamlined solution suitable for diverse environments, including those with power constraints. Our proposed modification not only streamlines the cleaning process but also aligns with the growing imperative for ergonomic solutions, especially relevant given aging populations and workforce shortages. This research highlights the evolution of cleaning practices and technologies, presenting a solution designed to meet the evolving needs for cleaner and healthier environments.
