THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF INTEGRATING RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES (SOLAR PV) INTO THE DISTRIBUTION NETWORK OF CRUTECH CALABAR CAMPUS
Abstract
This work explores the economic impact of integrating renewable energy sources solar PV,
into the distribution network of CRUTECH Calabar campus, The objective is to analyze the
potential benefits and challenges associated with incorporating renewable energy sources as a
means of achieving effective energy delivery. The study examines the economic implications
of transitioning from conventional fossil fuel-based electricity generation to a solar-based
energy system. The research examines the economic feasibility of this transition by
considering factors such as initial investment costs, operational expenses, and potential
revenue streams. It investigates the upfront costs associated with installing solar panels and
related infrastructure, including equipment procurement and installation. Additionally, the
study analyses the long-term operational expenses, such as maintenance and monitoring, to
assess the overall economic viability of the solar energy system. Ome of the key advantages of
integrating solar power is the potential for cost savings, By generating electricity from solar
energy. the campus can reduce or eliminate its dependence on costly grid electricity or diesel
generators. This can lead to substantial savings in energy expenses over time, Moreover, the
study explores potential revenue streams that may arise from the solar energy system, such as
feed-in tariffs. which allow excess electricity to be sold back to the grid, and net metering,
which enables the campus to receive credits for excess energy produced. In terms of
environmental benefits, the integration of solar power can significantly reduce greenhouse
gas emissions associated with conventional energy generation. By utilizing clean and
renewable energy, the campus can contribute to mitigating climate change and promoting
sustainability. The study assesses the environmental impact of the solar energy system,
quantifying the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants.
