JOB MOTIVATION AND EMPLOYEES PERFORMANCE: A STUDY OF BENUE STATE UNIVERSAL BASIC EDUCATION (SUBEB)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the Impact of Job Motivation on Employee Performance: A Study of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The general objective is to assess how motivation influences employee performance within SUBEB. Employee motivation plays a crucial role in determining job satisfaction, productivity, and overall organizational efficiency.
The study employs both primary and secondary sources of data. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to SUBEB employees, while secondary data were obtained from relevant literature, including workshop papers, conference materials, textbooks, internet sources, newspapers, and magazines. The research is anchored on the Human Relations Theory, which emphasizes the importance of employee motivation, welfare, and work environment in enhancing productivity.
Findings reveal that motivation significantly influences employee performance. However, the study also discovered that SUBEB currently offers limited motivational incentives to its workforce, which negatively impacts productivity and job satisfaction. The lack of adequate incentives, poor working conditions, and limited career development opportunities were identified as major challenges affecting employee performance.
Based on the findings, the study recommends that SUBEB should implement attractive and competitive conditions of service to boost staff morale. These include creating a conducive working environment, offering a well-structured and competitive salary scale, providing financial and non-financial incentives, ensuring accessible healthcare services, and establishing opportunities for staff training and career development. By prioritizing employee motivation, SUBEB can enhance job performance, reduce turnover, and improve the overall quality of education services in Benue State.
