Abstract

This project explores the artistic documentation of Benue culture through the medium of tie and dye fabrics, focusing on traditional techniques, cultural significance, and contemporary applications. Benue State, located in central Nigeria, is home to a rich tapestry of ethnic groups, each with unique cultural practices and artistic expressions. Among these, tie and dye fabrics stand out as a significant aspect of Benue's cultural heritage, embodying both aesthetic beauty and socio-cultural meanings. The study aims to document the traditional tie and dye processes used by Benue artisans, analyze their cultural relevance, and examine how these techniques are being adapted and preserved in contemporary contexts. The project provides a comprehensive overview of the historical background, materials, tools, and techniques involved in Benue tie and dye.
